ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – Albuquerque Community Safety (ACS) is looking for ways to decrease gun violence. ACS held an event on Wednesday with the police department and the U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of New Mexico to discuss what the city has been doing to combat the rising trend. The main topic of discussion was where the city is implementing technology to detect when a shot is fired. They added the city denied adding new gunshot detection systems to the south and northwest parts of Albuquerque due to budget constraints, explaining it is very taxing to cover the entire city. APD urged the community to always call in when they hear gunshots ring out, adding those calls will get them to within usually 80 feet of where a crime possibly occured.
