GRETNA, La. (WGNO) — This weekend is the 30th anniversary of Gretna Fest, and the poster is being unveiled. This year's artist is Rodney King.
Kid Rock, Irma Thomas, Charlie Daniels, Dr. John, Allen Touissaint, Rockin' Dopsie, Trombone Shorty and Amanda Shaw are all performers from Gretna Fest's past who are all featured on the Gretna Fest 30th anniversary poster created by Rodney King.
In this artwork you'll also notice Huey P. Long Avenue, the Jefferson Memorial Arch and City Hall.

"It was actually a contest, and I was selected out of nine artists. It is such an honor because it is the 30th anniversary, and this is the most infamous festival on the West Bank," King said.
King is following in the footsteps of his high school art teacher Keith Eccles who created past posters.
"He did the poster in 2021 and 2023, and he inspired me," King said.
In his artwork you'll notice that the performers are taking center stage, but that's not all that Rodney added. He's added personal connections to the lineup.
"On the plane, you'll see the date of my wife and I's [wedding] anniversary. The clock on city hall reads 3:11, and that is the time that my first son, Levi was born. My baby Hayes who's two years old is here pointing at three little rats playing musical instruments. My oldest son Levi is here holding a sign, reading 'collect memories.' Myself and my wife are here. You can see Dr. John holding the 30th anniversary Gretna Fest program. On Trombone Shorty's trombone you'll see there is a ladybug, and then on Rockin' Dopsie there's a monarch butterfly on his forearm," King said.

And like a lucky ladybug, King feels lucky to be part of Gretna's rich history.
You can find more of Rodney King's art at Stained Glass Wine House in Downtown Gretna.
Gretna Fest runs from Oct 5. through Oct. 7.
