KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Local businesses who support the Kansas City Royals are loving the blue buzz as the team is back in the postseason for the first time in nearly a decade. "We have vendors that make things that are Kansas City or Midwest centric, but we also sell vintage materials too,” Co-owner of Local Foundry, Dave Eames said. “We opened in 2019; the Chiefs were getting on a roll and we have been super fortunate because they have been in all these Super Bowls.” There's a ton of Chiefs red in the shop, but also Royal blue. More and more of it is starting to show up. "As the temperatures of the teams rise, it helps all of us down here. When you see it on the sidewalks, all the spirit gear people are wearing. After a few tough years with the Royals, after that awesome run in 2014/2015, It’s great to see them back,” Eames shared. "We get through this first hurdle, and then when we have a true 7-game series with games back in Kansas City, I think that will make a big difference in terms of people coming out and looking for the latest fresh stuff." Another shop in Lee’s Summit is KC Swagger, a female-owned and operated clothing shop. Kansas City will play host to numerous NCAA championships through 2027 "If you can dream it, we can decorate it,” owner Gina Seibel says. "We have paused Kansas City baseball temporarily and we are going back to our normal jobs, but our eyes are glued on the TV tonight to see what the boys in blue will do.” Seibel says it’s not if but when the Royals tally another win. "When we win tonight, we will open up orders again for our popular ‘today’ shirt.” She said the inspiration for her “win this day” came from a recent video she came across, which also presents a life lesson. “I listened to that video. It gave me chills." "Don't worry too much about what happened yesterday, don't look too far ahead. Just win this day. If we clinch tonight, we will definitely pop this back up on the website for preorders." She also explained that they were in a time crunch following the Royals' postseason clinch. "They clinched Friday night after all our t-shirt suppliers had closed. We had to order all our shirts Monday morning before the first game on Tuesday. We had less than 24 hours to print everything,” she said recalling last week’s playoff berth. She and her team live for the thrill, however. "The Royals went to the playoffs in 2014," she detailed. "We didn't win that year but then went back in 2015, but when we came out that spring and it was one of the first games and someone threw a ball like hitting our players and I thought, 'People are out to get us', but like our team has some swagger. “You should put that on a shirt,” she recalled her husband saying. That moment is what started her business: KC Swagger. “If you make something, you're like 'Oh I kind of like that', but if you see someone choose to wear something that you made and you've printed. It’s just a really cool feeling.”
