Residents recover in Saluda County despite majority without power
Oct 02, 2024
SALUDA, SC (WOLO) — Storm cleanup continues across the Palmetto State.
More than half of Dominion Energy customers in Saluda County are still without power as of Wednesday afternoon.
Saluda High School student Deivid Pinto woke up Friday morning as usual for class, but instead the power was off and school was cancelled. Saluda County School District has cancelled class for the rest of the week due to the power outage and trees blocking bus routes. The high school principal says next week is fall break and then classes will return as normal.
While cleanup continues and the power is still out for the majority of Saluda County, volunteers have teamed up with the local school district to help hand out food that has been donated by local businesses such as Amick Farms.
With a large Hispanic population in the area, language has been a barrier and so have trees in the roads.
It may be sunny outside, but the cleanup work is just beginning in Saluda and the surrounding counties like Edgefield and Aiken.
If you would like to donate non-perishable food, paper products or hygiene items, you can drop them off at any Radius Church location.
