(CALHAN, Colo.) -- A new pumpkin patch in El Paso County is now welcoming families and community members to join in all things fall fun at the family farm. After five generations of ownership, Clint and George Schubert of Schubert Farms have decided to share their ten acres of beautiful land in Calhan with the community--by creating a pumpkin patch for the first time since owning the land. The farm offers three different corn mazes, tractor rides, backyard games like cornhole, pumpkin picking, and even a 37 foot tall bouncy slide for kids to enjoy. "Clint and I came up with an idea to put a pumpkin patch in and so we talked it over and we decided the pumpkin patch is good because this is the first pumpkin patch where you can go out and pick your own," said George Schubert, co-owner of Schubert farms. The family farm has been around for over 80 years and now it's run by fourth generation Clint Schubert and his father George. "I hope they carry on the tradition like we did and they enjoy it, and hopefully, they'll be able to make a living on it," said George. This year the pair decided to try something new by creating a unique pumpkin patch experience with a full harvest of 150,000 pumpkins to choose from. "There's not a lot of places in the state that you can go cut a pumpkin off the vine, let alone this is the only corn maze in El Paso County," said Clint. Admissions for the farm experience are $16 and include all of the fun-filled activities and a fresh pumpkin. "I don't care which pumpkin you pick, you can pick the one that's two inches, you can pick the one that's 16 inches across, and it's yours to take home," said Clint. They say cutting the pumpkins from the vine makes the experience unique compared to other farms. "It creates those lasting memories, I know my kids love pumpkin patches, especially one where you can go cut one off the vine. That's something I remember doing when I was a kid, going to visit Venetucci and cutting their pumpkins off their vine, I was maybe four or five years old and that's what we're kind of trying to replicate," said Clint. In addition to the pumpkin patch, the duo also built 16 acres of corn to make up three different corn mazes to get lost in, each with different difficulty levels. A tractor ride is also a fun option, called the "Corn Tour," which will take people through the six foot tall corn stocks. Clint's father George said he grew up on the farm and raised his family on their land, and now its nice to see the family continue to grow and keep traditions alive. "It's a lot of hard hours and a lot of time, it's not a nine-to-five job, and we're still working daylight to dark, but that's what we've grown up with and that's what we do," he said. The pair said they hope to make the spot a little town by adding different buildings to mimic historic times. Schubert Farms is open Friday-Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and is located off Baggett Road in Calhan.
