ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) – An Ovid Man and South Seneca Junior/Senior Highschool employee has been arrested and accused of possessing a weapon on school grounds. Seneca County Sheriff Timothy Thompson says Investigators arrested 62-year-old Everett Babcock for Criminal Possession of a Weapon on School Grounds. According to Deputy Thomspon, a .22 caliber rifle along with ammunition was found in the maintenance building. The Seneca County Sheriff's Office and School officials deemed the incident as isolated and confirm that there is no immediate threat to students or faculty. “On Tuesday afternoon this week we learned that our employee had been accused of keeping a firearm unsecured on our campus, and we are grateful for the Seneca County Sheriff’s Office’s swift action in response. Safety and security has always been, and will always be, a primary concern for the district, and in 2024 no one should have any confusion about bringing firearms of any kind into a school district. We will cooperate fully with the ongoing investigation,” South Seneca Superintendent Zielinski said. Babcock was issued an appearance ticket and is scheduled to appear at the Ovid Town Court on October 15.
