WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — Two brothers from Wichita pleaded guilty in federal court to taking part in a scheme to defraud a federal healthcare program. The Department of Justice said Todd Eck, 60, and Bradley Eck, 56, both pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to defraud the United States. They were indicted in August 2022. A news release said the scheme occurred from January 2017 to April 2019. The Ecks allegedly utilized four healthcare-related companies they created to enroll in Medicare reimbursements for billed medical procedures. The DOJ said the brothers concealed their ownership and control of the businesses on the Medicare enrollment form and omitted background information about themselves. Those omissions were material to determining whether Todd and Bradley were eligible to enroll, so all billing reimbursements made by Medicare to them were fraudulent. Pilot flying Helene rescue missions in NC ordered out, threatened with arrest Both brothers previously had licenses to practice chiropractic medicine. Bradley's was revoked by the Kansas Board of Healing Arts in 2013 for gross negligence, professional incompetency and dishonesty. The DOJ said Todd's license was revoked in 2018 for violating an order, fraud during license renewal, practicing medicine without a license, fraudulent medical records and failure to maintain records. The DOJ said as part of the plea agreement, the Eck brothers must pay $3.4 million in restitution. Sentencing is scheduled for Jan. 13, 2025, and they face a maximum of five years in prison, the DOJ said.
