TRENTON — An arrest has been made in the murder of a 17-year-old city resident, according to Acting Mercer County Prosecutor Theresa L. Hilton. Her office announced that a joint investigation with Trenton Police and the county’s Homicide Task Force resulted in the arrest of Keisan Simmons, 19, of Trenton. Simmons is charged with one count of first-degree murder, one count of second-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and one count of second-degree unlawful possession of a weapon. He is detained in Bucks County while Mercer County arranges to have him transported to New Jersey. County Prosecutors plan to file a motion to detain Simmons pending trial. On Sunday, Sept. 22, Leverett was in a fistfight, according to family members, and when he got the better of his opponent, they say a gun was drawn and Leverett attempted to flee, but was shot in the back. Police said that ShotSpotter activated at 12:23 p.m. that day and officers responded to the area of Parkside and Homan Avenues to find Leverett with a gunshot wound to the back. He was taken to Capital Health Regional Medical Center where he passed soon after. The prosecutor’s office said the investigation is ongoing and asked that anyone with pertinent information contact MCHTF Detective Luis Vega at (609) 278-2720 or Sgt. William Jett Jr. at (609) 331-5010. Information can also be emailed to [email protected].
