HOLYOKE, Mass. (WWLP) - It's now October and the weather is getting cooler. A look at fall foliage in the Berkshires Temperatures have been getting cooler recently with highs in the 60s and 70s and overnight lows in the 40s. If you've noticed more bugs showing up on your window screens and around your doorways you're not alone. This is the time of year some bugs are looking to get inside your home before it gets much cooler. Entomologist Bob Russell with American Pest Solutions told 22News, "You see what we call occasional invaders, stink bugs, western conifer seed bugs, lady bugs. They're going to be on the move now because this is the time of year they're looking for over wintering sites." There maybe some other pests that may be trying to get into your home as well. Mice and other rodents are also looking to escape the cold so it's important to take steps to keep them from getting into your home. "Go down in your basement leave it dark and look for light penetrations those are normally areas where mice can get in so of you want to try and rodent proof your home before they get in," says Russell. "Look for those light penetrations and try to seal them up the best you can." A mouse can squeeze inside an opening as small as a dime so it's important to make sure you don't have any gaps. Also, keep in mind once mice get inside your home they can quickly multiply.
