The Berkshire Eagle reports that the project includes a 37-thousand-square-foot public safety complex that combines fire and police departments in one building, and also adds a community space.
This all comes after Congressman Richard Neal secured $1,000,000 of funding in the fiscal year 2024 spending bill.
Congressman Neal says the town of Lee is deserving of these funds. "When you have all these pieces hanging out there in Massachusetts, almost $10 billion of infrastructure money, it is pretty extraordinary so I trust the people in the local government here. That is where the decision-making should take place as to how these funds are allocated," says Congressman Neal.
These funds have left town officials grateful for the new improvements that are coming to Lee.
Selectboard Chairman Gordan Bailey told 22News, "That's a million dollars we don't have to repay and I think one thing people forget is there is interest over those 25 years on that million dollars that we do not have to pay. So what this really amounts to is about $1,600,000 dollars in relief for our townspeople."
Now this project is one of thirteen Congressionally Directed Spending projects submitted by Congressman Neal that totals nearly 15 million dollars in investments through the first congressional district of Massachusetts.
