Double-Double at In-N-Out. | Cathy Chapling Plans have been re-approved to open an In-N-Out location near Beaverton In-N-Out has been a California icon since it opened its doors in 1948 in the Los Angeles neighborhood of Baldwin Park, but it wasn’t until the 1990s that the burger chain ventured outside of the state to open a location in Nevada. After much anticipation, In-N-Out opened its first Oregon location in Medford in 2015, followed by outposts in Keizer (just an hour from Portland), Grants Pass, and Roseburg. But Portlanders have remained out of luck for a location directly in or around the city. In 2021, there came a glimmer of hope for a future Portland area In-N-Out: The company was reportedly considering a location along the Beaverton-Hillsdale Highway in Washington County, but Koin reports that locals voiced fears of traffic jams caused by drive-thru lines and restaurant patrons. Then in April, after three years of waiting, just as it felt like In-N-Out fans might be out of luck, The Oregonian reported that the chain was eyeing not one, but three locations around Portland, including revisiting Washington County. So, are animal-style double-doubles still in the Rose City’s future? The Oregonian now reports that the Oregon Land Use Board of Appeals held up its approval of In-N-Out opening in Washington County in August, reaffirming its decision. The news comes after a Beaverton resident filed an appeal to block the development. According to the report, no opening date for the In-N-Out location has been shared yet. When the Beaverton-adjacent location eventually opens, it will be located at 10565 SW Beaverton-Hillsdale Highway, just 15 minutes from downtown Portland. In the meantime, Oregon residents can trek out to the other locations in the state or until 2025 when, as Fox 13 Seattle reported, In-N-Out will open its first location in Ridgefield, Washington, just a 30-minute drive from Portland.
