RAPID CITY, S.D. (KELO) -- Pennington County's State's Attorney's Office recently started a podcast that offers an exclusive backstage pass into some of the biggest cases in the area.  It also offers an in-depth look at the work they do. In many instances, you either need to be in the courtroom or get a highlight of what happened to know more about a case. Anthrax confirmed in cattle at South Dakota auction "You know, years ago we had to depend on the media to kind of get our stories out and today we have all these different methods of communication. And this just seemed like a fun way for us to be able to tell our entire story with kind of no time limits and hopefully in an interesting way to cover topics that we want the community to know about," States Attorney's Office PIO Katy Urban said. The Justice In Action podcast will cover everything from how their office works, to law terminology as well as revisiting some older cases. "I've convinced her that like every third episode, let's tell a story about some really fascinating case that has impacted our community, that we've never really been able to tell the full story about," Pennington County State's Attorney Lara Roetzel said. The goal of the podcast is to give more insight into what goes on behind closed doors and to better paint a full picture. "There's only so much that you know about getting access to a story just from the courtroom. So we have so much other access to detectives, and survivor stories and the prosecutor's backstage. Information on what goes on behind the scenes," Roetzel said. "We're just getting out, this person plead guilty or the sentence was this. But you don't always think about the person behind that crime and how it impacts not only the victim, but their families, the community, the people who work on the case, the investigators. And so I think being able to give their perspective will be something that our community will like," Urban said. This month, Justice In Action will showcase a domestic violence case, where the survivors' side can be heard. The Justice In Action podcast will also accept requests from the public on what stories they want to hear. It is available on various podcast platforms.
