SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO/AP) — From the beginning of 2023 through the end of June 2024 in campaign financing per the Federal Election Commission, 2024 presidential candidates disbursed $586 million, 2024 Congressional candidates disbursed $1.8 billion, party committees disbursed $1 billion and political action committees disbursed $6 billion. For Tom Daschle, who represented South Dakota in both the U.S. House and Senate, money in politics is concerning. Meet the 2025 South Dakota Teacher of the Year "I worry about where it's all leading and just the impact that it could have on candidacies going forward," Daschle said Tuesday. "Who wants to raise that kind of money to run for office?" KELOLAND's Dan Santella also spoke with Daschle about former President Jimmy Carter reaching 100 years, with Daschle saying "the most important legacy is the kind of man he has been."
