The Jewish new year of Rosh Hashanah is set to begin Wednesday night. Millions of Jews in South Florida and around the world commemorate the creation of the world. It lasts for 2 nights, and is often treated as a time of reflection and forgiveness on the previous 12 months, and focus on hopes for the coming year. The holiday is observed by hearing the sound of the shofar, or ram’s horn, and eating sweet treats like apples dipped in honey. It kicks off a 10-day period of reflection in the Jewish faith. Following Rosh Hashanah comes Yom Kippur, a day of atonement where Jews fast for 24 hours to atone for their sins. To all who celebrate, Shana Tovah, and have a happy and sweet year 5785.
