INDIANAPOLIS -- Hours before Indiana's first televised governor debate, the campaign of U.S. Senator Mike Braun, R-Ind., the Republican candidate for Indiana governor, released its plan to flight inflation. This comes after Braun's campaign has released a number of plans he intends to implement if he is elected as governor in early November, including plans regarding property taxes, education and healthcare. Braun will face Jennifer McCormick, the state's former superintendent for public instruction and the Democratic candidate for Indiana governor, and Libertarian gubernatorial candidate Donald Rainwater in November's general election. According to a news release from Braun's campaign, this new plan aims to help Hoosiers struggling with inflation, including "comprehensive fiscal policies that address the immediate needs of Hoosier families, as well as the long-term stability of the state economy." Braun fails to disclose digitally altered image in new ad despite state law “Traveling Indiana, I hear from so many Hoosiers who feel like they’re barely keeping their head above water due to Bidenflation, rising utility bills, high property taxes, and wages that just aren’t keeping up," Braun said in the release. "My plan is directed at Hoosier families sitting around the kitchen table trying to make ends meet: My top priority is to make things better for you.” The plan includes the following steps to help combat inflation and improve the state's economy: Historic tax relief The campaign referenced its already released property tax plan, the campaign said that this would help allow Hoosiers access to more of their paychecks as inflation continues to impact Indiana. The campaign also advocated for individual tax relief, including no state tax on tips and not taxing retirement income, as well as business personal property tax relief. Good-paying jobs The campaign said the creation of good-paying jobs, as well as incentivizing employers to raise wages, would help the state combat wage stagnation. This includes the creation of the Hoosier Workforce Investment Tax Credit, incentivizing businesses to upskill their workforce and providing higher wages and economic growth for all Indiana communities. Affordable and reliable energy The campaign said that it would embrace an "all-of-the-above" energy strategy, exploring all new generation opportunities, including fossil fuels, renewable energy and nuclear, when they make sense. The campaign also said that it would prioritize smart renewable development and cutting regional red tape related to utilities. Streamlined regulations and government services The campaign said it would protect small businesses that face "uncessesary and costly regulations" and "create an environment for small businesses to thrive." This includes a "comprehensive regulatory review" across every level of government. The campaign said that the state government should eliminate any regulation found to be outdated, redundant or overly burdensome. The campaign also said that the state should develop recommendations to modernize regulations that are not eliminated. Leaner, efficient state government The campaign said that outcomes-based performance metrics should be implemented for all state agencies to "ensure that Hoosier tax dollars are being used effectively and that each agency is providing reliable, quality services." The campaign also said it would regularly conduct performance reviews and would eliminate unnecessary or underperforming positions and programs. According to the Indiana Secretary of State’s office, Hoosiers are able to register to vote for the 2024 General Election through Monday.
