FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE)-- Soon enough, drivers will have a little less to deal with on the roads, this comes after Philip Labrash, Traffic Engineer for the City of Fort Wayne says the construction season is wrapping up. Fort Wayne's construction season is about seven months long usually beginning in April then wrapping up sometime in November. Labrash says this is because asphalt can only be laid down during certain temperatures. He says this year was especially busy as they had $41.5 million dollars in the capital budget for 2024, which included neighborhood concrete, streets, asphalt paving, sidewalks and trail work. "...we've had a very successful construction season, and due to the partnership with between public works, the mayor's office and city council," said Labrash. "We continue to add more and more work each year. We appreciate everybody's patience during the construction season, due to all the cones and barrels and detours that everybody deals with." One project, construction on Covington Rd between Getz and Hadley took a bit longer than expected due to a late start, Labrash anticipates that to be completed soon but didn't give an exact date. Though things typically wrap up in November he says nothing is set in stone. "We don't have a hard date. It really is project to project, depending on what sort of work is being done, what sort of work is wrapping up asphalt pavement jobs. Typically, it all depends on how cold the weather is." The city has a list of active construction projects, click here to visit their website.
