WASHINGTON (NEXSTAR) -- President Biden said he would not support an Israeli strike against Iran’s nuclear facilities.  Following a call with G-7 leaders on Wednesday, he said the ally group stands behind Israel but believes Israel’s response to Iran’s unprecedented missile attack should be proportionate. Right now, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is pledging revenge against Tehran. Following weeks of escalating fighting between Israel and Iran proxy Hezbollah, Iran launched nearly 200 missiles into Israel Tuesday.  Netanyahu accuses Iran, Hezbollah’s backer of trying to “wipe out” Israel. He says Israel is “against the evil axis of Iran.” Netanyahu held a consultation with the heads of the security establishment as he plots Israel’s next move. McCain Institute Executive Director Evelyn Farkas says she suspects Israel is considering Iran’s nuclear targets.   "I suspect that they will take advantage of this opportunity to achieve some objectives that they already have, some military objectives,” said Farkas. Farkas says how Tehran responds will depend on how aggressive the strike is. Farkas, a former Pentagon advisor, explains Iran is divided between hawkish military leaders and more levelheaded diplomats who would like to alleviate the country from harsh sanctions. “What happens in that aftermath is anyone's guess," says Farkas. In recent weeks Israel’s military has aggressively and successfully gone after Hezbollah targets in Lebanon. The IDF launched a ground incursion into Lebanon Tuesday. Farkas fears ramped up fighting will not bring Israel closer to freeing hostages through a ceasefire deal. The State Department blamed the stalemate on Hamas.
