(SOUTHERN COLORADO) — A dominating ridge of high pressure will continue to sit on top of the region for the next several days. This will keep our weather quiet and very warm. It may also lead to some record-breaking heat. The heat is on, here locally at least. We're already coming off of one of the top ten warmest Septembers of all time and now we're facing new records. Specifically, portions of the region may see the all-time hottest day in October on Wednesday since records began. That record seems most likely to be broken in Colorado Springs on Wednesday. Currently, the FOX21 Storm Team has the forecast at 88 for the Springs with other sources going even higher. The previous warmest day ever in October happened back in 2020 and a few other additional years. For Pueblo, that record will be a bit tougher to beat. Previously, Pueblo's hottest October day was 94 degrees set back in 2020 as well. Current forecasts point to 91 degrees for the area which may pull up just a few degrees short. Regardless, Pueblo will still be roughly 15 degrees above normal for this time of year on Wednesday. A quick look at Almosa shows that folks in that region may also see some record-breaking heat on Wednesday. The FOX21 Storm Team has the forecast at 79 degrees in the San Luis Valley. Previously, the hottest day ever in October was 81 degrees recorded back in 1979. With this particular record only being a couple of degrees off, it appears to be a bit more obtainable than areas like Pueblo. Current long-range forecasts from the Climate Prediction Center (CPC) don't show this heat letting up anytime soon. Above-average temperatures are likely for most of the month of October with a bullseye of heat directly over Southern Colorado.
