BOONE, N.C. – Classes are cancelled at Appalachian State University until after Tuesday, October 15th, as western North Carolina continues to recover from Helene. The university is operating under emergency conditions. Their fall break is October 14-15 and classes will resume no earlier than Wednesday the 16th. Cancelled classes are in effect for both the App State Boone and Hickory campuses. Adverse Weather Condition 3 remains in effect until 5 p.m. on Friday, October 11th. Officials said no residence halls are structurally compromised. On the Boone Campus, the Residence Halls, Central Dining Hall, Campus Markets, the Student Union, Student Health Service and the Student Recreation Center remain open and operational. App State athletics is gradually resuming practice and competition. The Varsity Gym and the Holmes Convocation Center did sustain damage from the storm. Off-campus students, faculty and staff in need of shelter should call 1-800-RED-CROSS (733-2767).
