CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Charlotte Motor Speedway employees and volunteers came together with a handful of drivers to Paint The Wall Pink, Tuesday. The tradition is in honor of breast cancer awareness month. Its just one of the ways the track will honor breast cancer survivors at next weekend’s race. When NASCAR comes to town, Charlotte Motor Speedway makes sure its about more than just racing. For the 12th year in a row, the wall running along pit road will be painted pink. During the month of October pink is more than just a color, it is something almost everyone can see and connect to. “It has touched everybody. You know, it’s hard to find someone that, you know, hasn’t had cancer affect their life in some way, whether it be themselves or family.” When rubber hits the road for the Charlotte Roval race on October 12th, Eric Jones will take to the track in this car for the Drive for the Cure 250, a car to honor breast cancer survivors like his mother and those still fighting, whose names are on the door. “So it hits home for me because there’s a lot of people on our car that we know, you know, most of the people that are on our car for, for the Charlotte race are people that I’ve known through my life and are close to me.” Leading the pack will be this pink pace car, personally designed by Alexandria Shelton Braham, a breast cancer survivor since 2018. The car is wrapped in all of the things that kept her going, her family, her support group, her happy place. “Oh my gosh, this is me. This is just who I am. I love the ocean. I’ve always loved the ocean. Between chemotherapy and radiation. We went to the beach.” There will also be pink window nets on every car on the track, making sure you cant watch the race without seeing some pink, and thinking about someone who is still fighting. “Being able to see a pink wall, it’s like, oh my gosh, they’re doing this for me. Somebody cares. Somebody knows. Somebody’s been through what I’ve been through.”
