NORTH DAKOTA (KXNET) — One state department and its leaders are figuring out how to solve the workforce issue plaguing the state. Find the Good Life is a talent attraction initiative, the goal is to attract job seekers looking for opportunities in the state by talking to employers and hopefully making the move to North Dakota. With a statewide cry for workers, those with the North Dakota Department of Commerce say they needed to find a solution now. "For many years now, we have had this challenge of having more jobs available than people to fill them, and that means we really have to look outside of the state for talent," Katie Ralston Howe, the workforce development director of the ND Department of Commerce. One of the things people in the department are doing under the Find the Good Life initiative is supporting military members as they make the transition to civilian life. ‘Light the World in Teal’ for Alzheimer’s Awareness Month in November They are doing so by connecting them with jobs. But that's not the only way the initiative is impacting the community. Oftentimes, job seekers are bringing family and becoming members of the community. "I am really excited about the work we are doing with Find the Good Life. We are still in the building stages and it is going to take a while to fill 30,000 open jobs, but we are making great traction. We are making great progress and we are looking forward to continuing that work for years to come," said Ralston Howe. The ND Department of Commerce is working with some other partners coming from around the country to help them get connected with military members as they prepare to retire and start looking for job opportunities.
