BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — Officials will host a groundbreaking event for the Livingston Parish Executive Airport on Thursday, Oct. 3. According to a release, the Livingston Parish Airport District will host a groundbreaking ceremony at the site of the new Livingston Parish airport at 10 a.m. on Thursday. As part of phase one, a 4,200-foot runway with a small apron for boarding and a connecting taxiway. The final structure design has a 5,000-foot runway with a larger apron and a full parallel taxiway. Construction of the runway is expected to begin in 2025. This airport will be used for general aviation, such as gliders, propeller planes, medium jets and corporate jets. The airport will not offer commercial flights. Smaller airports, such as the one headed to Livingston Parish, average about $15 million in economic impact and provide at least 150 new jobs. The property can be found south of I-12, near the Satsuma exit. This airport will be the newest airfield built in Louisiana in 40 years, according to the release.
