BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) -- One man was arrested after allegedly shooting and killing another man in McFarland in late August. Michael Mendez, 22, of Delano was arrested on Tuesday on suspicion of first-degree murder in connection to the killing of 34-year-old Xavier Lopez of McFarland. Police say the homicide happened on Aug. 24 around 9:37 p.m. when officers were dispatched to the 200 block of East Perkins Avenue for the report of a shooting and a man down. Officers arrived at the scene and found Lopez suffering from multiple gunshot wounds in the roadway. Lopez was pronounced dead at the scene. Police confirmed his identity Wednesday morning.
