Through the end of the week, it will be all about the small steps we take to get back to some beautiful weather. Today, the first small step has been slowly drying out. Clouds remain socked in across the entire DMV, but other than a few pockets of drizzle, the soggy weather has wrapped up. A cold front slowly crosses from west to east across the region, and it will start to wear away at the clouds. Spotty showers will be possible this afternoon along this front near the I-81 corridor, but the rest of us should hang on to a dry day. The locations most likely to see some late-day sunshine will be in western MD and WV, where temperatures could jump into the 70s. Mostly cloudy skies and patchy fog will continue for the rest of us into the night. A slight wind shift will occur as the front fizzles out nearby tomorrow, leading to more sunshine across the entire area. There will still be clouds hanging around, but everyone should see more sunshine than we have over the last several days combined. Temperatures will respond to the added sunshine, with afternoon highs expected to hit the mid-70s. Another partly cloudy and warm day will be on tap on Friday, with another front sweeping through. This front shouldn't bring any additional rain, but it will bring drier air from the north for the start of the weekend. This drier air will give us mostly sunny skies over the weekend, making for a beautiful first Saturday and Sunday of October. Each afternoon will be warm, followed by cool nights, a classic fall staple many of us have been waiting for. We'll be in for even more of a fall chill early next week as another front swings through from the north on Monday. A few isolated showers will be likely with this front passing through, but there shouldn't be widespread rain. By next Tuesday, the chill behind this front will be felt, with highs in the 60s and lows plummeting into the 40s and lower 50s. Have a great rest of your Wednesday! 7-Day Forecast: Today: Mostly cloudy with spotty showers. Winds: Light ESE, High: 71 (66-74) Tonight: Mostly cloudy with patchy fog.
