TOPEKA (KSNT) - New information is coming to light regarding Heartland Motorsports Park just south of Topeka after it recently changed hands. Becky Nioce with the Shawnee County Register of Deeds office told 27 News on Monday, Sept. 30 the race track is now the property of Topeka 77, LLC. Shawnee County Treasurer Larry Mah also confirmed the tax debt to the county accumulated by the former owner of the park, Chris Payne with Shelby Development, LLC, of more than $3.4 million was paid in full. Developers haven't released any plans for the track yet, but the future of Heartland Motorsports Park is nevertheless taking shape. The team at Topeka 77, LLC has many ideas for how to develop the land. However, everything is still in its early stages. "They're focused on the highest and best use of the property and a mutual benefit for the community and them," said GO Topeka President Molly Howey. "I've seen a lot of rumors, heard a lot of rumors. There is nothing definite out there that has plans to move into this site at this time." Henry McClure talks run for Shawnee County District 2 seat with 27 News Shawnee County Commissioner Aaron Mays said paying the taxes owed to the county will have an immediate impact on the county's pocketbook. Shelby Development owed the county for taxes that built up over many years for the race track and the other plots of land surrounding. GO Topeka reports one rumor heard is that Amazon will be constructing a new facility on the property. While the organization said this isn't the case, it is still too soon to know exactly what the developers have planned for the track. For more local news, click here.
