HOLYOKE, Mass. (WWLP) - Roca Holyoke held an open house at its new space on Race Street Wednesday. Magic for Maddie 5K and Carnival fundraiser in Holyoke for brain cancer research Roca invited Holyoke Mayor Garcia, Holyoke Police Department leadership, and community partners for a tour of their new space and the unveiling of their fiscal year 2024 data. Roca Holyoke has played an integral part in disrupting generational cycles of trauma and violence by engaging young people in the city. Roca initially opened its Holyoke site in 2018, but now, this new facility will them to expand their reach and impact. "We're all working together, providing employment, stability, housing, all sorts of things for the young people in the community," said Director of Roca Western Massachusetts, Solomon Baymon. "This new site, a bigger space, it's more accessible for our young people, and it's a safe space, more importantly." Mayor Garcia assured 22News that with Holyoke's compassion, he will continue to support Roca in relieving quality of life struggles residents may face. "There are folks that are struggling and in this case, we're talking about our kids," said Garcia. "Roca intervenes and helps kids figure out their journey and get on a path to just being a good human being." This partnership between local leaders and Roca Holyoke is helping to foster change in young people's lives, therefore strengthening the city's future. Roca's fiscal year 2024 data reveals positive trends in engagement, behavioral outcomes, and criminal justice involvement. Among 127 young people served, 97% had no new arrests, 100% had no new incarcerations, 100% had improved behavioral mental health, and 96% had improved emotional regulation. With city support, Roca Holyoke will continue to help young people pursue a healthy and productive future.
