SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) - The White House has announced President Joe Biden will be traveling to Georgia on Thursday to tour areas impacted by Hurricane Helene and meet with affected communities. The announcement comes after Biden announced he has directed the Department of Defense to deploy up to 1,000 active-duty soldiers to support the delivery of food, water and other critical commodities to communities impacted by the storm. The forces will be available for deployment starting Wednesday. Harris to tour Helene devastation in Augusta Officials say this action will provide additional manpower and logistics capabilities, enabling the Federal Emergency Management Agency and other interagency partners to reach the hardest hit areas as quickly as possible. The Biden and Harris Administration said they are prioritizing lifesaving and life-sustaining response efforts in impacted communities, as well as ensuring people displaced by Helene have prompt access to federal resources that will enable them to both purchase essential items and begin their road to recovery and rebuilding. The White House hasn't announced where in Georgia Biden will be visiting. He will also travel to Florida.
