Meadowbrook High School closed Wednesday following stabbing

CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- Meadowbrook High School is closed Wednesday after a stabbing on campus happened involving students Tuesday, Oct. 1. School officials confirmed that a student was stabbed, resulting in another student, the suspect, being taken into custody.
The student who was stabbed was taken to a local hospital to be treated.
In response to the traumatic event, the school is offering counseling and mental health services for students and staff. These resources will be available on campus from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 2.
The stabbing, which occurred around 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 1, prompted a lockdown at the school, leaving parents waiting outside for hours to retrieve their children. The circumstances of the stabbing remains unclear. Parents eventually picked up their children from the Meadowdale Library down the road.
In a message sent to Meadowbrook High families at 3:50 p.m. on Tuesday, it was announced that the school would be closed and all after-school activities would be canceled on Wednesday, Oct. 2.
Classes are expected to resume on Friday, Oct. 4, following a scheduled holiday on Thursday, Oct. 3.
Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the stabbing, and the school community is urged to utilize the mental health support services available during this difficult time.
