11 dogs seized, two arrested on drug charges and animal cruelty in Pawtucket

PAWTUCKET, R.I. (WLNE) — Two individuals were arrested last night in Pawtucket after police located 11 dogs inside of their residence living in “deplorable conditions.”
50-year-old Rafael Diaz and 26-year-old Jamira Jenkins were charged with unnecessary cruelty to animals, and multiple other drug charges.
According to officials, a search warrant was issued after an extensive investigation by the Pawtucket Police Narcotics Unit into distribution of large amounts of cocaine from the residence into several surrounding communities.
The animals were transported to the Pawtucket Animal Shelter to be evaluated and cared for.
Police allegedly also located approximately 50 grams of cocaine, one pound of packaged marijuana, digital scales, packaging material, and approximately $5,000.
Both individuals will be arraigned today in court.
