PAWTUCKET, R.I. (WPRI) — Two people are facing charges after Pawtucket police said they found 11 dogs living in "deplorable conditions" inside a home on Don Court. Police said they searched the home on Tuesday as part of an investigation into the distribution of "large amounts of cocaine" throughout the area. Detectives found approximately 50 grams of cocaine, one pound of packaged marijuana, digital scales, packaging materials, and around $5,000 in cash, according to police. The dogs were brought to the city's animal shelter to be cared for and evaluated. Rafael Diaz, 55, and Jamira Jenkins, 26, were both arrested on the following charges: Unnecessary cruelty to animals (11 counts) Manufacturing/possession with intent to deliver 1 oz. – 1 kilo Possession with intent to deliver cocaine Possession with intent to deliver marijuana Distribution/manufacturing of a controlled substance near a school Maintaining a common nuisance Conspiracy During their arraignment on Wednesday, neither suspect entered a plea and both were granted $30,000 surety bail. Diaz and Jenkins were ordered to stay in Rhode Island, not care for animals, surrender their passports and firearms, and both agreed to sign a Fourth Amendment waiver. Close Thanks for signing up!
