(CHARLOTTE SPORTS LIVE) — eNASCAR driver Bobby Zalenski has always had a passion for the sport of racing. “Ever since I was born I was a racing fan,” Zalenski said. “I wanted to be in the NASCAR Cup Series my whole life. I found a good alternative to it I’d say.” The alternative to normal racing was the eNASCAR world, where Zalenski is a full-time sim racer after being born with Scoliosis, a spinal condition that causes an abnormal sideways curve of the spine. Greensboro teen with cerebral palsy, passion for fencing, seeks to be an Olympian “I did do go-karts when I was eight years old, but then my dad got scared because of my back,” Zalenski said. “I could do exactly what I wanted to do, but just online and so that just quenched that thirst of my racing competition.” Things have worked out quite well for Zalenski, who’s become one of the best in the sport. He’s fulfilling his new-found passion, while at the same time finding an escape, at least temporarily, from an otherwise painful condition. “With the Scoliosis, I don’t even think about it 'cause it doesn’t matter,” Zalenski said. “When you’re racing, you’re just in that mode and it doesn’t matter.” Zalenski hopes to serve as inspiration for others facing similar situations that there's still access to racing. He's keeping his future plans open, but for now, Zalenski likes where he's at in sim-racing. “The real-life racing is just a pipedream. I don’t think it’s unrealistic at all,” Zalenski said. “Racing a real car at all would be a bonus, but this is my thing.”
