(PUEBLO COUNTY, Colo.) — The Pueblo County Sheriff's Office (PCSO) is warning the community about a new scam that is circulating in the community involving fake checks being sent to victims that are tied to a fraudulent employment opportunity. PCSO explained that scammers are sending emails to victims, posing as employers, and that the email also includes a fake check to be deposited via a mobile app. "Scammers tell them to keep some of the money as an “allowance” and use the rest to buy and ship items," wrote PCSO, which also warned that the scam is an attempt at obtaining bank account numbers from victims. "If you are unsure of whether a call or message is legitimate, contact the person or agency to check it out," wrote PCSO.
