BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) -- A man accused of driving drunk in a deadly crash on East Truxtun Avenue has never been issued a driver's license and acknowledged knowing drunken driving can result in death, according to a court filing.
Martin Alameda Sanchez, 25, was arrested Saturday after his Dodge Durango rear-ended a car parked on the north curb in the 1200 block of East Truxtun Avenue, police said. The driver of the car was killed and the passenger suffered serious injuries.
The driver killed was identified as Lorena De La Torre-Luna, 47, of Bakersfield.
Sanchez has pleaded not guilty to charges including second-degree murder and is being held without bail. His next court hearing is set for Oct. 10.
According to a probable cause declaration, the Dodge rear-ended the car "at a high rate of speed." A records check showed Sanchez has never been licensed, the filing says; he was unable to provide proof of insurance.
"(Sanchez) stated he was previously aware that driving intoxicated can result in fatal collisions," an officer wrote in the declaration.
