AUSTIN (KXAN) -- It's that time of the year when we look to the fall foliage to become more colorful, but with climate change affecting so much, the question that comes to mind is whether it affects when the leaves will change color--if they change color at all. Meteorologist Rich Segal spoke with Dr. Theresa Crimmins about how Fall leaves are impacted by climate change. Part of the discussion related to how increasing nighttime temperatures can impact if those leaves become more colorful. It is quite likely in Central Texas that the onset of the color change could be delayed because of the current summertime temperatures in the first two weeks of fall. Dr. Crimmins also suggested climate change does have a bit of an impact on when the leaves fall to the ground.
