COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) -- Columbus is set to host two of the largest sporting events on the NCAA's calendar in the upcoming years. The NCAA announced on Wednesday that Columbus will host the 2027 Women's Volleyball Finals and the first and second rounds of the 2028 men's March Madness tournament. Linda Logan, CEO and president of the Greater Columbus Sports Commission, said the decision is a "tremendous honor" for the city. She said the city is ready and excited to welcome fans. "Our city is deeply committed to supporting and elevating both men's and women's sports, and these events are a testament to that dedication," Logan said. "With the 2027 Women's Final Four already on our horizon, we’re proud to continue building a legacy of excellence in hosting premier collegiate championships including others awarded in this cycle." Where Ohio State sits in football playoff picture In 2023, Columbus hosted the Men's March Madness first and second rounds as well, and sold more tickets than any other city hosting initial games. According to the Greater Columbus Sports Commission, the city has hosted more than 1,100 sporting events since 2002, which have generated an estimated $1.5 billion in visitor spending for Columbus. The events join a growing list of NCAA events set to be held in Columbus. Capital University's Director of Athletics Darrell Bailey Sr. said the university is excited to host the DIII Men's and Women's Soccer Championships in 2026 at Historic Crew Stadium. Other upcoming NCAA events include the 2025 Men's Volleyball Championship and 2025 NCAA DI Women's Golf Regionals.
