A person found fatally shot in a Humboldt Park home has been identified as a 17-year-old girl, officials said. A suspect was arrested but charges have not been announced in the death of Stephanie Lopez-Ramirez, police said. Officers found Lopez-Ramirez about 12:30 p.m. Tuesday inside a residence in the 700 block of North Avers Avenue, Chicago police and the Cook County medical examiner's office said.Lopez-Ramirez, of the 3300 block of West Potomac Avenue in Humboldt Park, suffered a gunshot wound to the arm and was pronounced dead at 1:01 p.m., the medical examiner's office said. Neighbor Jackie Smith Jr. never heard gunshots but said he saw a flurry of police activity on the block Tuesday morning.Other neighbors told Smith Jr. someone had died in a unit but they did not have any other details.Smith Jr., 60, has lived on the West Humboldt Park block since the late 70s. Back then the block “made the news many days,” Smith Jr. said but now its mostly a quiet area.“It's beautiful, it's peaceful,” Smith Jr. said standing outside his yard Wednesday. There was no activity on the block Wednesday and no indication there had been a crime scene a day earlier. The block is home to almost all new residents, according to Smith Jr. He said he knew a large family stayed in the back of the building where the shooting occurred and worried it may have been one of them.Area Four detectives are conducting a homicide investigation.
