OKLAHOMA CITY (KFOR) — A Michigan family is begging for answers after they say someone hit and killed their loved one while he was riding his bike in Oklahoma City last month, leaving him to die. That man’s family, who live more than a thousand miles away, have been trying to piece together what happened in the days since the crash happened, but they’ve been finding that process difficult. Police investigate hit and run after deadly collision It’s hard to find the words to describe the anguish James Adams and his family have been living with. “There ain’t enough words in the English language,” James Adams said. “I wake up every morning wishing that it was just a nightmare,” James Adams’ daughter, Kimberly Adams, said. It’s been a little over a week since James Adams was sitting in his Detroit home with his wife Terry and daughter Kimberly—and had a funny feeling. “I asked… I wonder why we haven't heard from Jimmy, right,” James said. His son, Jimmy Adams, lived in Oklahoma City—more than a thousand miles from his family. It wasn’t like Jimmy to not call them. “We're sitting there and the phone rang,” James said. On the other end of that phone call was someone from OU Medical Center. They told him they had been caring for a man for several days, who’d been injured in a hit-and-run crash.   The problem was, they weren’t sure who he was. The family got to Oklahoma City to see Jimmy as quickly as they could. “He went into a coma,” James said. For the next week, as Jimmy laid in a coma, his family worked to piece together what happened. They learned some sort of vehicle hit Jimmy while he was riding his bike on Rockwell Ave. early in the morning on September 20. The driver apparently did not stop. It happened right outside Oklahoma City Fire Station 31. That’s just about all Jimmy’s family knows.   “We've been trying to find out information ever since we got here,” James Adams said. “We went to the fire department before I went to go to the police department. We went to the police department.” “It seems like it's just you can't get in the answers because you can't talk to anybody directly,” Kimberly Adams said. “Even when we went to the police station, we had to push a button and we stood there, What are you here for?” News 4 asked the Oklahoma City Fire Department (OKCFD) if the fire station had any cameras that may have caught what happened, they said no. But they did confirm the Oklahoma City Police Department's (OKCPD) crash unit is investigating. A nearby business owner told News 4 he turned over surveillance video of what happened, to OKCPD. When News 4 reached out to OKCPD, the department said they have no arrests or suspect descriptions to share. News 4 asked about that surveillance video the business gave OKCPD. Driver not found after Saturday night South OKC hit and run OKCPD told News 4: “It's not uncommon for us to release video in cases that could prove helpful or generate tips from the public. We don't have anything of that nature related to this point in the investigation.” Jimmy’s family says police still have not shared their crash report with them. “Everybody seems to think that we are getting the runaround, there's no reason why we don't have this information,” Kimberly Adams said. “There shouldn't be any reason why we can't get it.” To make things worse, on Monday, James Adams had to do something no parent should ever have to do. “They actually pulled the plug on him at 10:00 last night,” James said. He chose to end his son’s suffering, without a chance to say goodbye.   “I hope you never have to… I hope you never have to make that decision,” he said. All the while, his family still doesn’t know who is responsible. “If you get yourself in this type of situation, stay in, render help, help the person,” Kimberly Adams said. “Don't just leave them there for dead.” Instead, they’re dealing with aguish. The kind no amount of therapy can help “No,” Kimberly Adams said. “It doesn't bring him back.” The kind there are very few words to describe. “Pure hell,” said James.
