HONOLULU (KHON2) -- A band of moisture is moving northwest across the island chain this evening, bringing low clouds and showers, especially to windward and mountain areas. With a southeasterly wind direction, some showers may reach leeward areas as well. A weak low pressure system northeast of Kauai might enhance these showers as the moisture continues to move up the islands tonight. By tomorrow morning, drier air will move in, reducing the number of showers. A high far northeast of the state will keep moderate trade winds through tomorrow. However, a combination of low pressure systems will weaken the high, leading to lighter winds through the weekend. It’s still uncertain if the winds will become light enough for a clear sea breeze pattern. As we head into early next week, the mid-level low will start to move northeast, allowing trade winds to pick up again.
