PITTSFORD, N.Y. (WROC) — Two goals from Melody Queri in the fourth quarter fueled the Pittsford Sutherland field hockey team to a 3-2 victory over Webster Thomas on Tuesday evening.
The battle pitted last year's defending sectional champs against each other, as Thomas won Class A and Sutherland claimed the Class B crown.
The Titans struck first with a goal from Kyla Near on an assist from Kennedy Spencer, giving Thomas a 1-0 lead with four minutes to play until half.
Trailing by one at the start of the second half, the Knights got their first goal when Elizabeth Rumble scored on a rebound from an Anna Powers shot. The score was tied 1-1 with five minutes remaining in the quarter.
Thomas took its lead back just four minutes after Sutherland scored with a goal from Francesca Rao, bringing it to 2-1 with a minute to play in the third.
The Knights opened the fourth-quarter scoring with a goal from Melody Queri to make it a 2-2 game. Less than two minutes after her first goal, Queri fired one off an assist from Rumble for the game-winner. Sutherland took the victory 3-2.
Sutherland (9-1) will host Brighton on Saturday, October 5th. Thomas (7-2) will travel to Penfield on the same day.
