CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- A student is in the hospital and another student is in custody after a stabbing at Meadowbrook High School, according to the Chesterfield County Police Department. The school went on lockdown around 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 1, leaving students and staff in place -- and parents standing by on edge. Some parents said they were waiting for hours outside the school for their students to be released. One parent said this highlights security concerns he already had.  "Unfortunately, this day and time, there's a lot of school shooting -- a lot of violent incidents at school," said father Robert S.Bey. "I wasn't taking nothing lightly." S.Bey said panic set in when he got a text Tuesday afternoon from his daughter's school saying Meadowbrook High was on lockdown for a stabbing on campus.  "As soon as I saw that, I jumped up immediately," he said. "I mean, I dropped everything."  S.Bey told 8News he waited for three hours in a neighborhood across the street from the school for his daughter to come out.   ‘It’s exhausting’: Chesterfield parent wants change after another school threat closes Tomahawk Creek Middle "She's been homeschooled the last three years," S.Bey said. "She wanted to come to school this year for her senior year, to get the experience."  But this isn't the experience she expected.  S.Bey said he constantly monitors his phone and even drives past the school every once and a while to check things out. Tuesday, he was frustrated with conflicting communication between what he heard from police and the school.  "The school is telling us one thing, the police are telling us another thing and, depending on what officer you talk to, they're gonna tell you a different thing," S.Bey said. "The lack of communication, or the inconsistent communication, makes it more frustrating for the parents and everybody else involved."   Police said one student stabbed another student. The suspect was taken into custody and the victim was taken to the hospital.  "Chesterfield County definitely needs to up its security," S.Bey said. "Because, you know, in this day and age, you don't want to wait for things to escalate."   Chesterfield County Public Schools released a statement saying school will be closed on Wednesday, but counselors and mental health professionals will be available for students and staff.
