CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) — Chesapeake Regional Healthcare's Mobile Clinic is on a journey to help those impacted by Hurricane Helene with some mobile health resources. "A fully functional kind of doctor's office, urgent care on wheels, and take it to this community where I heard this morning they've only got one doctor in town right now," said Morgan Allen, director of population health with Chesapeake Regional Healthcare. The medical team is headed to Yancey County, one of the many communities devastated by the storm. The Mobile Clinic is filled with medical necessities. "[It has] basic medical supplies to provide care, so things like wound care, you think about people getting injured, cutting up debris and that sort of thing, so being able to treat that, IVs for dehydration, so kind of those basic things you would find in an urgent care," Allen said. These supplies will help the team treat a plethora of different health issues. "Folks with diabetes, not having insulin or diabetic resources, we got resources for that," Allen said, along with the ability to treat infections and provide wound care. The team also will bring clothes, baby formula and other personal care items. Allen, originally from the area, said it is important to give back to his own community, because, here in Hampton Roads, they're in a position to lend a helping hand. "We're very fortunate to have this unit — our goal is to use it here in Hampton Roads, most often," Allen said. "It's actually fairly new, we've only had it since June. ... Having this kind of doctor's office on wheels, we want to do good." Banister Nissan also provided an extra vehicle for the team to take to North Carolina.
