NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — Mayor LaToya Cantrell was seemingly in high spirits while she presented her 2025 budget to city council members on the morning of Tuesday, Oct. 1. Her public appearance comes just days after former city building inspector, Randy Farrell, was indicted on multiple federal charges that tied Cantrell to the alleged crimes. "Accusation after accusation after accusation, but also a track record of delivering results." In the indictment, Farrell is accused of supplying Saint's Football tickets, an iPhone and a steak dinner to "Public Official 1," who sources believe is Cantrell, in exchange for firing an employee in the permits department. Chief Administrative Officer Gilbert Montano was also referenced as someone who received tickets. Before and during the special council meeting, Cantrell dodged questions from the media and instead focused on the future of the city for 2025. Making sure that we address root causes," Cantrell said. "That's why our crime is down and leading in the United States of America." "It was important for us to be able to hear what the mayor wants to see as her vision for the city, especially during this last year, in terms of the budget that she would have any influence over," Councilman Eugene Green said.
