The University of Hawai'i women’s volleyball team will hit the road this weekend for matches against UC San Diego and Long Beach State. Star pin-hitter Caylen Alexander remains day-to-day, dealing with what coaches call "wear and tear". Stepping up in her absence has been true freshman Adrianna Arquette, a Kamehameha graduate, who was originally expected to redshirt, made her first career start in last Saturday’s sweep over Cal State Fullerton. “Super special, of course, just knowing the girls on the team have my back. It just made me feel super comfortable,” Arquette said. Alexander, who leads the team with 248 kills and 12 aces, exited in the third set of Hawaii's five set loss to UC Irvine. The following night she participated in warmups without an attacks and was held out of the match against the Titans. “Caylen plays a really dominant role on our team, and I think just our whole team having to step up and get the job done has been key. The freshmen are getting better every day and looking up to the older girls to lead us. I’m just doing everything I can to help the team, whether in games or in practice.” In five matches over the last two weeks, Arquette has recorded seven kills, 12 digs, nine assists, and two aces. The Rainbow Wahine return to action Friday night at UC San Diego. The match will stream on ESPN+ and will be broadcast on ESPN Honolulu radio.
