FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – Students at Purdue Fort Wayne held a debate watch party Tuesday night. Organizations such as the Center for Information and Research on Civic Learning and Achievement have released reports saying in this election cycle, approximately 41 million members of Gen Z will be eligible to vote. We've seen a few unconventional mediums used for campaigning during this election such as TikTok, X, and Instagram that is helping to reel these young voters in. During Tuesday's watch party at Purdue Fort Wayne, students were fired up about the debate, stating that they were interested to hear both Walz and Vance's stance on certain topics such as the economy, women's reproductive rights and tensions over seas in the middle east. Political science professor Mike Wolfe says it's beneficial to find other ways to keep Gen Z interested because it very well could change the tide of this election. Interactive bingo cards themed toward the debate were even passed out and seemed to help keep students interested and engaged. Overall students at the watch party think Vance won this debate, however they pointed out how civil and composed the candidates were in comparison to the presidential debate. This is likely the last debate we will see between both parties before election night in less than five weeks.
