MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. (WCBD) – A Mount Pleasant elementary student became South Carolina's top child fundraiser recognized by the American Heart Association Tuesday. Miles Moore from Mamie P. Whitesides Elementary raised $3,785 for the state's Kids Heart Challenge fundraiser. In comparison, the average Whitesides student raised $122, and the school raised over $25,000 overall. "I love finding creative ways to raise money," said Moore. "One of my favorite parts of Kids Heart Challenge is watching the videos about how to be healthy and learning how to help save someone's life with Hands-Only CPR. I also like the prizes and the fun things we do in class with the program." The school-based challenge involves elementary and middle school students in physical activities like dance, basketball, and jump rope, as well as using the online system Finn's Mission. Through Finn's Mission, children can earn badges for learning skills like hands-only CPR, how to spot a stroke, ways to combat stress and ideas for healthy eating.
