CALEDONIA, Wis. (WFRV) - The Wisconsin Department of Justice Division of Criminal Investigations is conducting a death investigation that occurred Monday evening. According to a release, on Sept. 30, 2024, shortly after 9:00 p.m., officers with the Racine Police Department initiated a traffic stop with a vehicle involved in a hit-and-run earlier in the day. Two escape without injuries after significant crash in Wisconsin The driver of the vehicle did not comply, and a pursuit ensued. The driver crashed into a tree at a high rate of speed near the intersection of Four Mile Rd. and Main St. in Caledonia. Law enforcement immediately began rendering aid, but the driver died at the scene of the crash. Appleton Police seek public’s help identifying suspect in armed robbery on S. Oneida St. The officers involved in the incident have been placed on administrative leave, per agency policy. The release says all law enforcement personnel involved in the incident were wearing body cameras. The Division of Criminal Investigations is reviewing evidence and determining the facts of this incident. Upon completing the investigation, they'll turn over reports to the Racine County District Attorney, who will decide if criminal charges are warranted.
