WASHINGTON (NEXSTAR)-- The Biden administration says it is surging resources to communities devastated by Hurricane Helene.  Southeastern states are reeling from catastrophic damage caused by the storm. President Joe Biden talked with the heads of multiple federal agencies on Tuesday about the recovery efforts.  "My top priority is to ensure that communities devastated by this hurricane get the help and support they need as quickly as possible," Biden said.  The President plans to travel to North Carolina and South Carolina on Wednesday to meet with local officials and survey the damage.  The White House says more than 3,500 federal emergency responders are already on the ground coordinating recovery efforts.  White House advisor Tom Perez explained how they're rushing generators, water, food and other supplies to impacted areas.  "We have an all-hands-on deck approach, and we are going to make sure we are moving heaven and earth to help people," Perez said.  More than 150 people were killed by the storm and hundreds more are still missing. Houses, businesses and roads were decimated in several different communities.  Perez says the Biden administration is offering direct help to survivors.  "To address a myriad of issues ranging from I need water, to I don't know where my loved one is, to I've lost my house," Perez said.  Right now, Congress is on recess, but lawmakers from both sides of the aisle say they need to come back to pass more disaster relief funding.  Senator Tim Kaine (D-Va.) is among those pushing for Congress to be called back into session, noting the historic damage.  "There is an important priority in getting us to come back and do a disaster supplemental for these states," Kaine said. "A regional catastrophe hitting the entire Southeast. The geographic spread of this damage is about as big as you get."  Vice President Kamala Harris is planning to visit impacted communities in Georgia and North Carolina this week. Former President Donald Trump was in Georgia on Monday and says he wants to go to North Carolina in the coming days.
