MINOT, ND (KXNET) — Magic City residents will need to be watching out for a detour. Starting at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, contractors will be installing new traffic signal mast arms on the north and south ends of the intersection of South Broadway and 16th Avenue SW in Minot. The arm installation is a part of a signal reconstruction project going on for a year. However, it hadn't caused any major street shutdowns until now. Due to the length of the mast arms, both ends of South Broadway will be shut down until installation is complete. Minot Public Works Traffic Engineer Stephen Joersz says there are many routes drivers can take to get around backed-up traffic. NDDOT to issue Non-Driver Photo IDs in Tribal Nations "If you're looking for routes to really bypass this area, on the west side 16th Street is a great option, and on the east side, you got 13th Street and maybe like 2nd Street that are more of an in-town route," said Joersz. Joersz says people can expect to see the biggest impacts on South Broadway between 11th Avenue Southwest and 20th Avenue Southwest. While South Broadway will be closed through the intersection of 16th, Joersz says contractors will still try to accommodate people in the surrounding businesses, along the intersection. "At South Broadway and 16th Avenue, we will try to keep the roadway as open as possible, try to be business-friendly, try to maintain access as much as we can, while shutting down the intersection to maintain sight safety for our contractor," said Joersz. Installation of the mast arms is expected to take about three hours, with traffic being able to move again shortly after the project is finished. Close Thanks for signing up!
