BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — After Hurricane Francine hit Louisiana on Sept. 11, FEMA is offering assistance for eligible homeowners and renters whose homes were damaged by the storm. Eligible homeowners and renters whose homes were damaged, but can still live there safely, may qualify for up to $300 from FEMA and the State of Louisiana to help with cleanup, according to the news release. Residents in Ascension, Assumption, Jefferson, Lafourche, St. Charles, St. James, St. John the Baptist, St. Mary and Terrebonne parishes may qualify for assistance. According to the news release, some of the other qualifications for assistance include the damages not covered by your insurance, FEMA deciding if your damaged home is safe to live in, saving your receipts from any supplies, materials or paid help, an inspector noted that you can live on the property, but cleanup is needed or already has been completed and FEMA inspection determined your damaged home is habitable. FEMA money available for people in Louisiana after Hurricane Francine Homeowners and renters looking to apply for assistance can do so by the following: visiting the Disaster Assistance website, downloading the FEMA mobile app, visiting a Disaster Recovery Center or calling the FEMA helpline at 800-621-3362 between 6 a.m. and 11 p.m., according to the news release.
