BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) -- Welcome to the first day of October, the day that summer returns.
A powerful ridge of high pressure building overhead will lead to warm and dry conditions, sending us soaring back to the triple digits this week. In Bakersfield today we're looking for a high of 100, well above our seasonal average of 87.
The Kern River Valley and Kern Desert will also top out in the 100s this afternoon, with the low 90s for the south mountains of Tehachapi and Frazier park.
We'll see a slow fall to the 90s in the valley this weekend, but unfortunately, there's no rain in our extended forecast and no dramatic cooling looking to bring back those fall-like 70s any time soon.
